Requirements for Substitute Teaching in the Public Schools

Here is the process which your district will need to follow, beginning July 1, 2014:

For employees who will be working in LOGAN COUNTY schools:
First, call 309/888-5120
to schedule an appointment at the McLean County ROE 17 office at 200 W. Front Street, Suite 500 D, Bloomington, IL 61701. Logan residents may likely still have the option to be fingerprinted in Lincoln, as the ROE's contractor, Bushue, comes to the Lincoln 27 Admin. office every other week.

For employees who will be working in MASON COUNTY schools:
First, call 309/477-2290 to schedule an appointment at the Tazewell County ROE 53 office at 414 Court Street, Tazewell Building, Suite 104, Pekin, Illinois 61554. Tazewell County also requires the submission of paperwork prior to the fingerprinting process.

For employees who will be working in MENARD COUNTY schools:
First, call 217/753-6620 to schedule an appointment at the Sangamon County ROE 51 office at 2201 South Dirksen Parkway, Springfield, IL 62703-4564. In order to schedule a background check for the Sangamon office, people need to go to www.roe51.org and click on the “Schedule a background Check” link on the right-hand side of the page. They will follow our checklist if they are planning to get the Sub Authorization from their office.

Additional information regarding substitute teachers:
Depending upon which districts they wish to work, substitutes will also have to go to the appropriate ROE to be fingerprinted.

Once the sub has received a Substitute Authorization from that ROE, they should bring it and their drivers license to our office to complete the paperwork permitting them to work in ROE 38. Only at that point will the substitute be placed on our list and allowed to sub for one of our districts.
